Lapo Elkann Named Global Special Ambassador at March 28 UN Event

NEW YORK – April 1, 2008–American Friends of Tel Hashomer Hospital announced a partnership with new Global Special Ambassador Lapo Elkann to raise $10 million over the next three years for the Rehabilitation Hospital at Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer, at a gala reception at the United Nations on Thursday night.

Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer in Israel is the largest and most comprehensive medical facility in the Middle East, and The Rehabilitation Hospital is world renowned for its expertise in long-term care and treatment of even the most difficult cases.

“We are delighted to launch our dynamic new partnership with Lapo, which we will continue until all of our fundraising goals are achieved,” stated Helene Feldman, Chairperson, American Friends of Tel Hashomer.  “Lapo’s energy, passion and commitment to help others make him the ideal person to tell the world about Tel Hashomer.”

“Tonight we take a significant step towards achieving our vision of a rehab center with eight divisions, touching every need from physical training to emotional support for posttraumatic disorders,” stated Prof. Zeev Rotstein, CEO, Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer.  “We envision soccer fields, swimming pools, creative art centers and other inspiring places where our patients can achieve their full potential while receiving the medical rehabilitation care they need.”  

Patients come to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer from across the Middle East and around the world.  It has also provided international relief and medical training in Azerbaijan, Brazil, Cambodia, Ivory Coast, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Russia, Rwanda, Sri Lanka and more.
